“My area has unfortunately been known for political violence, but we must change that narrative. Violence during campaigns has affected lives and destroyed property. I appeal to all politicians to be tolerant and preach peace,” he said.
The rally was organized by MCP’s shadow Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Darlington Harawa.

TA Mponera also called on fellow traditional leaders to remain non-partisan and uphold their roles as neutral custodians of community welfare during the election period.
“I have been engaging political candidates and fellow chiefs in my area to emphasize the importance of peace. We must remember that, despite our political differences, we are one people,” he added.
In his remarks, Harawa pledged to conduct a peaceful campaign and urged voters to give him another mandate.
“You have witnessed my developmental efforts since 2019. I am asking for another term so I can complete the projects I started. My goal remains to transform the face of this constituency,” he said.
Minister of Lands Deus Gumba, who was the guest of honour at the rally, echoed the chief’s call for peace and urged voters to support President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in the upcoming election.
Gumba said Chakwera has done number of development projects in Dowa district such as M1 road as well as security houses among others.
“President Chakwera has initiated several development projects in Dowa, including the M1 Road upgrade and construction of security officers’ houses. If you want continued development and peace, vote for him again,” Gumba said.
