With three successful cohorts completed and the application process for the fourth cohort in progress, the impact of this initiative is evident.
Today, during an insightful interview on Y254 TV, Shampi Ann, an alumnus of the program, shared her experience, shedding light on the profound lessons learned and the urgent need for education on climate change matters.
During the interview, Shampi Ann highlighted how the program broadened her perspective on the intricate dynamics between the global north and south in the realm of climate space. “The Nairobi Summer School wasn’t just about education; it was a catalyst for awakening our generation to the global challenges that demand our attention,” she emphasized.
Emphasizing the interconnectedness of climate issues, Shampi Ann issued a compelling call to action for future generations. “Young individuals need to actively seek opportunities to learn and engage with climate change matters,” she stressed. Additionally, she firmly believes that the knowledge gained through the Nairobi Summer School empowered her to contribute meaningfully to the discourse surrounding climate change and sustainability.
Charles Mwangi, the Head of Program and Research at PACJA, also participated in the interview, providing insights into the modules taught at the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice. He reinforced the importance of climate justice, drawing attention to the pivotal role of the global north, particularly major emitters, in honoring their pledges to the global south.

Mwangi passionately advocated for climate justice, asserting, “Education is the linchpin in empowering the youth across the continent.” He highlighted the need to nurture and educate young individuals with the potential to represent the global south on the international stage, shaping them into effective advocates for climate justice.
As the fourth cohort’s application process unfolds, the impact of the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice is set to grow exponentially. Scheduled to commence in the mid of this year from June 23, 2024, the training will take place at Chuka University. This strategic move expands the reach of the program, bringing its transformative potential to a broader audience.
The initiative, aligned with the AU’s 2024 theme, contributes not only to education but also to the cultivation of resilience and awareness regarding pressing global challenges. In a world grappling with the ramifications of climate change, initiatives like these underscores the urgency of fostering informed and empowered individuals who can actively participate in addressing environmental concerns.
