Simkonda tragically succumbed to low blood sugar at Chitipa District Hospital last night after a short illness, his brother, Gustin Simkonda, confirmed the news.

In a statement, Moyale Barracks football club said Simkonda was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chitipa District Hospital.
“His brother, Gustin Simkonda, confirmed the sad news to Moyale Barracks Sports. He stated that Andy was rushed to the hospital yesterday, where he was later pronounced dead due to low blood sugar,” reads the statement.

Moyale Barracks FC has described Simkonda as a key player who helped in transforming the Kaning’ina soldiers.
“Simkonda was a key player during his tenure at Moyale Barracks, leaving an indelible mark on the club’s history. Notably, he scored a hat-trick in a resounding 5-0 victory against Embangweni at Mzuzu Stadium on December 31, 2011. A month later, he netted two goals in a 2-1 triumph over Wanderers,” reads the statement.
Beyond club football, Simkonda also shone on the international stage in 2009 as he played a crucial role for the Malawi Under-17 national team, scoring five goals against Namibia to secure their qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Simkonda will be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday, at his home village, Ipenza, under Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa.
