Four arrested for killing Form 3 student in Balaka

Police in Balaka have arrested four people in connection to the murder of Gift Libuda, a former Form 3 student at St Charles Lwangwa Secondary School.


Balaka Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, identified the suspects as Amosi Chisale, 25, Emmanuel Banda, 37, Jingo Chilembwe, 41, and Chimwemwe Banda, 27.

The four allegedly attacked and assaulted Libuda to death on September 11, 2023, as he boarded a Sienta motor vehicle on his way to Chendausiku to collect his luggages and later dumped it close to Great Lakes Gate within Andiamo location.

They were arrested on Tuesday October 3, 2023, through an intelligence driven investigation conducted by detectives from Balaka Police Station.

It has also been established that the same four suspects on October 2, 2023 at Sosola Village in Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka District allegedly murdered and robbed Patrick Mashalubu of Karaundi Village in Traditional Authority Mbiza in Zomba District of his money amounting to K250,000.00 as he was going to buy farm produce at Golomoti in Dedza District.

The suspects have been charged with murder and they will appear before court soon to answer charges levelled against them.

Amosi Chisale is from Kambadi Village in Traditional Authority Mwandira in Nkhata Bay, Chimwemwe Banda is from Mawawa Village in Traditional Authority Mwase in Kasungu, Emmanuel Banda is from Mapulanga Village in Traditional Authority Mbelwa in Mzimba while Jingo Chilembwe comes from Katapito Village in Traditional Chimwala in Mangochi District.

Malawi as a country is still registering murder suspected cases, for the past ten days Lilongwe alone registered three suspected murder cases namely;Agness Katengeza whose body was found in a trunk of her Vehicle dumped in area 47 barely three days after the body of Alan Witika was also found in his car in the same area 47 

On the day that Katengeza’s body was found a body of a man was also found in Area 25 in the same City 

Malawi police service through National Public Relations Officer Peter Kalaya in a statement assured malawians that it will make sure that all perpetrators are found and arrested.
