In a move to promote gender justice in the country, the Gender and Justice Unit has signed a memorandum of understanding with local media house Police FM Radio to strengthen public awareness and engagement on gender issues through radio programming.

The agreement is expected to support programs that focus on women’s rights, access to justice and other social issues affecting communities across Malawi.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, GJU board chairperson Lynda Ndovie Jere said the partnership will help amplify conversations around gender-related challenges and provide communities with information on legal rights and protections.

“Radio remains one of the most trusted sources of information and one of the most effective platforms for reaching communities. Through this collaboration, we want to ensure that issues surrounding gender justice are widely discussed and that people understand the legal options available to them,” Jere said.

Jere said the initiative will particularly benefit women and young people by giving them access to information that can help them seek justice and address gender-based challenges.

In his remarks, Malawi Police Service Public Relations Officer Senior Supt. Lael Chimtembo said the collaboration aligns with the goals of Police FM to strengthen communication between law enforcement and the public.

Chimtembo said the radio station will use its platform to promote dialogue on gender justice, human rights and community safety while providing listeners with reliable information.

Police FM was established by the Malawi Police Service as part of efforts to promote preventive policing and improve public engagement through community-focused broadcasting.

The partnership is expected to introduce specialized programs that will educate the public on gender justice, legal rights and the role communities can play in addressing social challenges.
