She revealed that her decision was the result of extensive consultations with various stakeholders and family members regarding her political future, underscoring the significant time and reflection that went into making this pivotal choice.
“This marks a new chapter for me as I align with MCP, and I am truly honored to have made this decision,” Kamtukule remarked.

She dismissed speculations that her move to MCP was driven by a desire to safeguard her ministerial position, clarifying that her primary focus is on serving the interests of Malawians and contributing to MCP’s success in the upcoming elections.
“The authority to appoint ministers rests with the president, and if he chooses to replace me, I will gracefully step aside. My commitment lies not in preserving my ministerial role but in supporting President Chakwera’s reelection,” Kamtukule affirmed.
MCP Secretary General, Eisenhower Mkaka, asserted that Vera Kamtukule’s inclusion in MCP underscores the party’s growing popularity, as well as President Chakwera’s commitment to good governance.
He hinted at the likelihood of MCP welcoming other political figures from different parties in the near future, emphasizing the party’s open approach to embracing diversity.
Mkaka highlighted that the joining of MCP by other individuals from other political parties reflects the evolution of political landscapes and the strategic realignments that shape the course of governance in Malawi by MCP.

The NEC made the declarations when it addressed journalists in Lilongwe.
Other members present at the press briefing included Saidi Bauti, Janet Gwaza, Gilbert Mwechumu and Bilal Mbowani.

“We organized this press briefing to specifically announce our acceptance of the will of the people and congratulate the winning candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika. Although MEC is yet to announce the winner, but from the results released, so far, it is clear that Mutharika is set to win the election with a wide margin,” said Chilungo.
Taking his turn, Mbowani – who is the party’s Regional Youth Director (centre) – cautioned the youth against being weaponised and sponsored to perpetrate violence, stressing that violence does not have a place in a democratic society like Malawi.
Mbowani appealed to the youth from all political parties to unite around consolidating democracy and advancing the social and economic aspirations of the country.
Theme mentioned NEC members admitted that they had organized the presser without the blessings of their party leader, Atupele Muluzi, who is contesting the outcome of the presidential election.
Meanwhile, former president Bakili Muluzi has advised President Chakwera to concede defeat and congratulate the winner.
The elder Muluzi emphasized that “there’s life after the State House”; hence, the importance of the incumbent Head of State to let go of the trappings of the Highest Office in the land.

“We are appalled by this act, which demonstrates their desperation and inability to win the September 16 elections. Their resort to violence is a clear indication that they lack confidence in their own campaign,” she said.

Kabwira added that AFORD’s actions reflect weakness and a lack of faith in their electoral prospects. “When a party resorts to violence, it shows they have no ground to stand on. We urge AFORD to focus on campaigning peacefully and allow the people to decide,” she added.
She also called on MCP supporters to maintain peace throughout the campaign period.
Chikondi Chisale said he was robbed of MK17 million, a phone, and footballs intended for distribution to local boys. “This is a serious incident, and I urge the authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
