Karonga press club (KPC) has today donated essential items to maternity wing and pediatric ward of Karonga District Hospital (KDH) in celebration of Malawi’s 60th independence anniversary.
The donated items included bathing and washing soap, soya pieces, table salt and match boxes
Chairperson for the club, Adams Wundaninge stated that the donation was made to support the hospital, emphasizing that those in hospital are among the community members whom journalists serve.
“While celebrating 60 years of independence, much as we journalists serve the community by informing them, patients here are among those we serve, while in hospital, they need our helping hand hence the donation which we hope will have a meaningful impact,” he said.
He has since called on well-wishers to assist people at the hospital, highlighting the need for more support in various areas.
Director of Health and Social Services (DHSS), David Sibale lauded the club for the donation, describing as a timely donation.
“We are very grateful for this donation as it has come at a crucial time because our patients in these wards require those items during their stay here to maintain their hygiene and reduce costs incurred during their stay,” Sibale said.
One of the beneficiaries of the donation, Marriam Ipopo expressed gratitude to the club, noting that the donation would positively impact them by reducing their expenses.
