Kasungu woman dies of excessive beer drinking

The deceased was found lying unconscious in her room at Teja 1 Resthouse in Kasungu.

A report by Kasungu Police Station shows that Zidikha was excessively drinking beer for three consecutive days on empty stomach.

The report further says that on the morning of January 16, 2023, the Resthouse attendant saw Zidikha lying lifeless in her room.

The attendant informed the deceased’s ex-husband who took her to Kasungu District Hospital, for medical assistance.

However, Zidikha was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Kasungu Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector Joseph Kachikho confirmed receiving the report.

“I can confirm that the matter was reported to police and autopsy revealed that the deceased died of low sugar (hypoglycemia),” Kachikho said.

Meanwhile, police in Kasungu are advising people to refrain from taking beer on empty stomachs to avoid similar incidents.

Zidikha who is suspected to be in her late 30’s, hailed from James Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mwase in Kasungu.
