Malawi First Movement demands action over brutal killing of Imedi, two others

Malawi First, The People First, a coalition spearheaded by the controversial human rights activist turned politician, Bon Kalindo, has called on the Malawian government to expedite its investigation into the tragic killings of Superintendent Usuman Imedi, Samuel Samson, and Mussa Asabi.

Imedi was stoned to death in October 2019 while on duty in Nsundwe, while Samson and Asabi met their untimely demise on October 4, 2018, in Thuma Forest at the hands of police officers.

Speaking at a press conference in Lilongwe on Friday, Malawi First President Bon Kalindo emphasized that the Tonse Alliance government’s lack of urgency in addressing these human rights violations reflects a disregard for justice.

“We demand transparency from the President regarding the progress of the investigations into the killings of Imedi in Nsundwe and the two other innocent Malawians brutally murdered in Thuma Forest, Salima. The lack of information is unacceptable, and we implore the President to address the nation on this issue and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable. Additionally, the police must promptly take action against the officers responsible for the deaths of Samson and Asabi. Justice must prevail,” Kalindo stated.

Kalindo addressing media of press

Echoing Kalindo’s sentiments, Ishmael Mussa, the brother of Mussa Asabi, lamented the government’s failure to uncover the truth and apprehend those responsible for his brother’s death.

Mussa appealed to well-wishers, the government, and Civil Society Organizations to intervene and ensure justice is served.

Similarly, Mayi Delamo, the mother of Samuel Samson, expressed her profound disappointment with the government’s silence regarding her son’s killing.

“My son suffered a horrific death, unlike anything I’ve ever heard of. I cannot fathom why the government shows no concern for the deaths of Asabi and Samson. We urgently call on the government to investigate these incidents and deliver justice,” Delamo tearfully pleaded.

The coalition issued a stern warning that if the government fails to act on the investigations, peaceful demonstrations will ensue to compel authorities to conduct thorough inquiries and prosecute those responsible.
