Police in Mchinji are keeping in custody a 25 year old man for being found in possession of medical equipment and laboratory medicine without license.

Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Limbani Mpinganjira has identified the suspect as Shepherd Banda.

According to Mpinganjira, police raided Banda’s home on 5 January 2025 upon being tipped off that the suspect was in possession of medical equipment in Kholoni Village, Traditional Authority Mlonyeni, along Mchinji/Lilongwe M12 road.

Mpinganjira added that the law enforcers arrested Banda and seized some medical equipment which the suspect failed to account for.

“Upon receiving the information, police moved swiftly and raided the suspect’s premises where police found and seized  Oxygen tubes, laboratory containers, laboratory medicine and 2 syringes which he failed to account for and he was immediately arrested,” said Mpinganjira.

Banda is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges of possessing medical equipment without a license as the police are investigating to determine the source of the equipment
