MEC has a new Chairperson as Mtalimanja replaces Kachale

In accordance with section 75 of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi and section 4 of the Malawi Electoral Commission Act, President Lazarus Chakwera, has appointed a new Chairperson and two new Commissioners for the electoral body.

Justice Annabel Mtalimanja is now the new Chairperson replacing Dr. Chifundo Kachale

According to a press release from the Commission, the appointments are with effect from 7th June 2024.

Successfully managed the 2020 Presidential re-run: Justice Kachale

Dr. Anthony John Mukumbwa and Olivia Mchaju Liwewe whose contracts expired on 6th June 2024, have been replaced by Commissioners Reverend Phillip Kambulire and Dr. Limbikani Kamlongera.

Dr. Kachale earned praise from different stakeholders in the way he successfully handled the 2020 Presidential re-run following the High Court’s annulment of the disputed 2019 elections owing to the massive irregularities.
