As the country gears up for the presentation of presidential nominations ahead of the 16 September general election, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has clarified that there has been no change to the official schedule for the presentation of presidential nomination papers, despite confusion caused by circulating unofficial information.
The clarification comes against social media posts alleging that MEC has granted the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) their request to schedule the day of submitting the party’s nomination papers from July 25 to July 28 2025.

In a statement released Tuesday signed by the Commission’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, MEC has emphasized that the timetable published on July 20, 2025, remains the only valid and authoritative schedule.

MEC has meanwhile urged all electoral stakeholders, candidates, political parties, the media, and the general public, to disregard any contradictory information and treat it as unofficial and unverified.
“The Commission greatly values the participation of all electoral stakeholders in this process and appreciates your continued cooperation, vigilance, and commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral calendar,” reads the statement.
