Banda said chiefs, amongst other things, must be at the forefront working with government to bring the necessary development to the people.

“We want you to take part in developing our communities by supporting government programs. Other developments are coming from the central government, others from the local councils through funds like Constituency Development Fund.
“It is your responsibility to ensure that you support, make appropriate follow-ups on these, and make sure the developments coming to your areas are those your people need,” said Banda.
The minister also asked traditional leaders to ensure the assistance government is providing to the people through various initiatives, like food relief programs reaches the intended beneficiaries.
He called upon traditional leaders to foster unity in the areas and the people they are serving and warned them against tribal wrangles and clan rivalries, saying this is detrimental to peace and development.
“Whenever you have disagreements, the best way to resolve them is through contact and dialogue. There should be no room for conflicts and bitterness amongst yourselves,” advised the minister.
He then warned that government will take to task any traditional leader bringing confusion amongst their subjects or counterparts.
Speaking on behalf of Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa the Fifth, Senior Chief Inkosi Kampingo Sibande of Mzimba applauded government for elevating Inkosi Mponela.
He, however, reminded the Senior Chief of the responsibility he carries both towards the people and government.
“I ask you to put the interests of your people first, and also support government development agenda for the benefit of your people.
“Similarly, I ask you all to support Senior Chief Mponela so that he may successfully execute his duties,” said Inkosi Senior Chief Sibande.
