The Ministry of Youth and Sports has commended Joggers on the Move (JOM) for organizing a marathon aimed at raising funds to support Bema Health Centre in Dedza District.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry, Isaac Katopola, made the remarks on Saturday during the 2025 JOM Marathon held at Gateway Mall in Lilongwe.
“We promote and support different sports organizations because sports help prevent non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure,” Katopola said.
He further applauded JOM for combining fitness with philanthropy, saying the initiative demonstrates the role of sports in promoting both health and community development.

Chairperson of JOM, Kondwani Kalichero, said the initiative received a positive response from the corporate world, with the group managing to raise over K16 million towards the project.
“This is a big step in the right direction for us, as we started small in 2018 and introduced our charity initiatives two years later,” he explained.
One of the 42-kilometer participants, Mude Bodza, expressed appreciation to JOM for giving her the chance to take part in the race, saying the experience has inspired her to consider joining the group.
A total of 35 athletes took part in the race which started from Kabudula Trading Centre and finished at Gateway Mall in Lilongwe.
