She said all the result sheets brought to the district tally centre were duly verified and signed by representatives of contesting candidates.

Nawasha added that the results have since been dispatched to Lilongwe.
“The elections were peaceful and I would like to call on the people of Neno to remain calm until the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) officially announces the results,” she said.
A local observer, Russell Msiska, said everything went well on polling day as centres opened on time and people were already in line to vote.
He attributed the smooth process and lack of violence to effective civic education, which ensured that voters understood the procedures.
Out of 50,826 registered voters in the district, 41,443 casted their votes.
