Parliament has approved Bill No. 26 of 2025, the OPEC Fund for International Development (Jenda Water Supply and Sanitation Project) Loan Authorisation Bill, allowing the Minister of Finance to borrow $27 million to fund the project.

Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Joseph Mwanamvekha, said the project will involve the construction of a water supply system, delivery of 5,000 water meters, provision of materials for water connections, and laboratory equipment.

“The project will also improve sanitation and hygiene services in households, institutions, and public places, while implementing forest catchment activities and reforestation efforts,” he said.

Mwanamvekha added that the project will enhance operational capacity through capacity-building initiatives and construction of a faecal sludge treatment facility, ablution blocks, and a landfill for solid waste management.
