Police in Chitipa on Wednesday arrested 24 Ethiopian nationals for allegedly entering the country illegally at Wenya along Chitipa Nthalire road.
Police in Chitipa on Wednesday arrested 24 Ethiopian nationals for allegedly entering the country illegally at Wenya along Chitipa Nthalire road.
Chitipa Police Spokesperson, Gladwell Simwaka on Wednesday said police officers at Chisenga Police Post received a tip that the suspected illegal immigrants were traveling in a high-roof Toyota Hiace minibus registration number BLK 9336 from Chitipa direction to Nthalire.

Simwaka said: “The law enforcers followed up the minibus to Wenya where the driver and his assistant upon noticing the police abandoned the vehicle together with the illegal immigrants and escaped into the bush.”
According to Simwaka, the suspects will appear in court soon to answer illegal entry charges, contrary to section 7 subsection 37 (d) of the Immigration Act.
He further said that investigations are underway to trace the driver of the minibus and his assistant who are at large.
