Build On Malawi under its Breaking the Cycle of Poverty project has embarked on constructing primary classroom blocks in Dowa to improve access to inclusive and equitable education in the district.
Speaking in an interview after Dowa District Executive Committee meeting on Thursday, Country Director for Build On Malawi, Macdonald Chiputula, said the organisation decided to construct the classroom blocks because of primary school infrastructure challenges.

“The project will be constructing school blocks across all the Traditional Authorities in Dowa and by 2024, we target to construct 17 school blocks. Also, we will be conducting sensitization meetings to make sure parents, guardians and children have knowledge on the importance of school,” he said.

Chiputula added that the project will also have a component of income generation activities so that parents and guardians should be able to support their children in school with essential things like school unform, fees and books.This he said will help reduce school dropout rates.
In her remarks, Director of Planning and Development for Dowa, Mercy Mpakule, said it was encouraging to see partners coming in to help in the development of Dowa.
