Registrar of Political Parties in Malawi, Kizito Tenthani, has challenged stakeholders to report to his office when a political candidate is found distributing handouts.
He made the remarks Thursday at Simbeko Lodge in Nsanje during the Multiparty Liaison Committee meeting aimed at briefing political leaders on the implementation of Political Parties Act, with special emphasis on the prohibition of handouts.

“We are here in Nsanje to inform them that the law will take its course. Anyone found in conflict with the law will be penalized accordingly,” he said.
He assured stakeholders that his office will treat any case with the seriousness it deserves within 72 hours as stipulated by law.
“We urge people to report to our office and those who might seek anonymity will be granted. Make sure the information reported to us has tangible evidence,” he urged.
He said all queries will be investigated by following all procedures on punishing the suspect.
Nsanje District Council Director of Education and Sports, Paul Chimphanda, praised Office of the Registrar for Political Parties for coming to the district to sensitize political parties.
“I would like to urge all political parties present, to inform your party followers and candidates on the prohibition of handouts,” he said.
He described the meeting as crucial saying it will necessitate free and fair elections.
Aspiring councilor for Nyamadzere Ward, Wesley Mafunga, said the meeting came at the right time as political campaign is getting momentum.
He said handouts have been hindering those who have political ambitions to stay away from politics.
