Savenda donates K2 million to Chitipa United

Savenda International Limited on Wednesday donated K2 million to Chitipa United as a way of motivating the team which is on 5th position with 13 points from nine games in TNM Super League.

Savenda International Limited representative, Faless Mpoha Moyo said Chitipa United is a flag carrier for the district hence the donation.

“Chitipa United is doing well in the Super League and we decided to donate K2 million as one way of motivating the team,” Moyo said.

She further said that: “The good performance of the team is because of the passion our boys and technical team have for the game of football. Otherwise, the team could have been performing poorly due to lack of sponsorship.

Moyo then appealed to people who hail from Chitipa and other well-wishers to come in and assist the team, which she said is struggling financially.

Moyo said that apart from donating K2 million to Chitipa United, the company has also donated 32 footballs and netballs to 22 football and 10 netball teams in Senior Chief Kameme and Mwabulambya in the district.

“We also have to develop grassroot sports like football and netball so that Chitipa District restores its lost glory of being a sports district in the country,” she said.

Chitipa United General Secretary, Duma Ngoma applauded Savenda International Limited for donating K2 million to the team, which he said will go a long way in alleviating some of the challenges the team is facing.

“We are appealing to Savenda International Limited to bounce back with sponsorship as currently we don’t have official sponsors. Communities in Chitipa district contribute money for the team to fulfil its fixtures but it’s not much,” Ngoma said.

He said that the team needs K45 million for sponsorship, saying that K9 million is needed as upkeep money for the players.

Chitipa District Council Director of Health and Social Services, Dr Mwatikonda Mbendera who represented the District Commissioner (DC) said  the donation has come at the right time when the Lions of Chitipa’s performance is at its peak.

“It’s everybody’s responsibility to mobilise resources for our team to do well in the Super League. The donation will motivate the players and technical panel. We are appealing to more well-wishers and companies to come in and sponsor the team,” he appealed.

Chitipa United made history recently by beating Blantyre based the so called big giants, Big Bullets and Mukuru Mighty Wanderers in the first round of the Tnm Super League.
