Stakeholders in Chitipa District have condemned Wotazs Group Construction for delivering substandard work on the K150 million Kamilang'ombe concrete deck bridge in Senior Chief Nthalire's area. The bridge, now partially collapsed, was found with major cracks even before it opened to road users. Local leaders and district officials are calling for accountability, as the contractor admits fault and promises to deploy a new team.
Chitipa District has recorded a major breakthrough in food security following the government's establishment of the Mafinga and Marko Irrigation Schemes in Senior Chiefs Mwenewenya and Mwabulambya respectively.
Chitipa District Council Director of Health and Social Services, Dr Mwatikonda Mbendera has welcomed a five-year Canadian-funded project by Operation EyeSight, saying the project is going to assist the district to prevent and treat eye problems.
