According to Mangochi Police Station spokesperson, Amina Tepani Daudi, the deceased, who was a widower, was living at his late wife’s compound despite passing years ago and this led to quarrels between him and his in-laws, who wanted him to return to his home village.

“On the afternoon of July 8, 2023, the victim’s son was surprised not to find his father at home and he later discovered that the back door was widely open and his late father’s body lying in a pool of blood.

“The matter was reported to Namwera Police Post and upon reaching the scene, the police found the victim with multiple stab wounds, a deep cut on the neck, with both eyes removed,” said Tepani.

She added that the police immediately launched an investigation and they later learnt that the three suspects had fled the village and their whereabouts were unknown.

Tepani added that after a few days, members of the community tipped the police, developments that led to their arrest in the early hours of Thursday.

The three suspects who have been identified as William Thaliban Mmadi, 34, Semu Allie, 25, and Malita Asani, 56, all from Chiwaula village in Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi are expected to appear before court once the investigation is completed.
