The United States Government on Friday donated 33,600 JYNNEOS vaccine doses to help the Malawi Government prevent the further spread of mpox.
With this delivery and ongoing support from the U.S. government, including with vaccine planning and rollout, Malawi is strengthening its response to the mpox outbreak to protect its citizens.
According to a press release from the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section, a rapid response team from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also working alongside the Public Health Institute of Malawi to support risk communication, infection prevention and control, and community engagement.
“This vaccine donation builds on the U.S. Embassy’s extensive work with Malawian partners to strengthen laboratory testing, case management, and surveillance.” reads the statement
The U.S. Embassy expressed gratitude to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) for providing implementation logistics for the vaccines.
The U.S. Government and U.S. Embassy will continue to partner with Malawi to prevent and respond to outbreaks that place the Malawian people and the global community at risk.
