Phalombe Police Station Public Relations Officer, Jimmy Kapanja said on June 6, Bokosi hacked her brother-in-law on the right hand using a panga knife when he was trying to separate a fight between the convict and her husband.

“Appearing before First Grade Magistrate Leornad Mtosa, the convict pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against her that prompted the state to parade three witnesses to prove the case,” he said.

He said in mitigation the convict pleaded for leniency saying that she is a first offender and she looks after her three children as the husband left her the moment she was arrested.

Kapanja added that in submission, Sergeant Maureen Namainja asked for stiffer punishment to deter other would-be offenders. When passing judgment First Grate Magistrate Mtosa concurred with the state and sentenced Bokosi to seven years imprisonment with hard labor with effect from the date of her arrest on June 13, 2023.
