DPP Lifts Injunction, Proceeds with National Governing Council Meeting

Former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has successfully lifted an injunction that had hindered its plans for a National Governing Council (NGC) meeting.

The injunction, obtained by DPP member Fredrick Billy Malata, had created a roadblock for the party. However, Supreme Court Judge Dingiswayo Madise ruled in favor of Malata, ordering the party to allow his attendance at the NGC meeting.

Malata’s injunction stemmed from his claim that certain individuals slated to attend the meeting were not legitimate NGC members.

Allegations also surfaced suggesting that the party intentionally excluded him from the list of attendees.

Nonetheless, DPP spokesperson Shadric Namalomba has confirmed the lifting of the injunction and the party’s intention to reschedule the NGC meeting.

Namalomba stated, “What it means is that the party can now proceed with its NGC meeting, but since we have just received the court order, the leadership will be meeting to discuss the next course of action.”

The NGC meeting holds significant importance for the DPP, as it is expected to finalize dates for an upcoming elective conference.

Initially planned for last Saturday at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi, the NGC meeting encountered delays due to the injunction. However, with the court ruling in their favor, the DPP can now forge ahead and address internal matters crucial to the party’s future.

DPP has experienced internal cracks and divisions since 2020, which have affected its organizational stability and decision-making processes. These fractures within the party have posed challenges and created uncertainties regarding its future direction.

The DPP’s previous NGC meeting took place in 2018, making this upcoming gathering of utmost importance.
