Governance experts fault Tonse Govt for appointing Kayuni as PS

Governance experts Victor Chipofya and George Phiri have faulted the Tonse Alliance government for appointing former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Dr. Steven William Kayuni, as Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Homeland Security.

They described the appointment as a compensation and ‘big weakness to a good governance system’.

Speaking to Nthanda Times on Tuesday, Chipofya wondered if Kayuni would handle the new office professionally considering that he was fired over abuse of office.

He alleged that the Tonse Alliance government could be compensating Kayuni over firing allegations that Tonse Alliance did in January over the arrest ACB Director General Martha chizuma.

On the other hand, Phiri said this means that the government did not fire Kayuni, but simply transferred to another department.

He said there is no way the same administration can appoint a person who was fired for abuse of office to another big position in Ministry of Homeland Security.
