The win means Songwe now have 5 points from 20 games but remain rooted at the bottom of the table with a -43 goal difference, while Chitipa United sit 10th with 23 points from the same number of matches.
Songwe Border caretaker coach Edwin Kaonga expressed excitement after finally breaking the winless streak.

“I’m very excited that we’ve managed to get the first three points. The secret has been the organization and coordination between the players, the technical panel, and the executive. We prepared well, and unity has brought us this far,” he said.
Kaonga added that Chitipa’s complacency played into their hands.
“I knew Chitipa would underrate us, and we capitalized on that. As long as we continue with this spirit, everything is possible,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chitipa United assistant coach Sullivan Kandulu admitted disappointment with his side’s performance, citing wasted chances.
“Songwe had one chance, and they buried it. We had several opportunities but failed to convert. It’s painful, but we must accept the loss and focus on our next game against Dedza Dynamos,” said Kandulu.
He apologized to fans for the poor display and promised a strong comeback.
“We apologize to our supporters for today’s loss. Please continue believing in us — we will bounce back,” he appealed.
