Chakwera optimistic Malawi will build resilience, sustainability amidst most countries being SDGs offtrack

Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has expressed optimism that Malawi will build resilience and sustainability despite most nations being off track to meet the 2030 deadline by which countries are expected to achieve the 17 globally acceptable Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Chakwera made the sentiments after coming out of the High-Level Political Dialogue on SDGs.

The Malawi leader said despite challenges that Malawi has faced over the past years, the country remains optimistic to build resilience and sustainability.

“With concerted support we will fast track our efforts in the remaining half of the journey by using cutting-edge technologies to revolutionalise key sectors of the economy such as trade, health and agriculture,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

After the High-Level Political Dialogue on SDGs, President Chakwera held talks with Dr. Qu Dongyu, the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) as he seeks collaboration with key stakeholders in Malawi’s quest to prioritise agriculture modernisation as a catalyst to food security, poverty reduction and economic growth.
