Speaking recently when he addressed a youth rally at Chituka Ground in his constituency Ng’oma said youths are key to national development hence the need to invest through different interventions.

Earlier, before the rally, there was a  football match between Lukana FC and Nigeria FC and netball match between Lukana and Nigeria.

He said that it is essential to provide opportunities for everyone to realise their full potential considering their talents.

“Not all who go far with education would have a chance to hold top positions as directors or ministers hence the need to diversify youths’ opportunities,” said Ng’oma.

He then pledged to continue sponsoring football and netball leagues in his area to prevent youth from indulging in immoral activities.

Deputy Director of Sports in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kinnah Phiri, hailed the minister for his interest in sports.

Phiri added the minister’s plans are in line with government’s vision in uplifting youths livehood.

Phiri who is a former player and coach of the Malawi National Football Team urged youths to utilise such opportunities adding that football is currently one of the better-paying professions.

“A living example from Nkhata Bay is Mecium Mhone, who I identified myself and now plays for Blue Eagles and the Flames as well. Be passionate about sports and at the same time be responsible for your future,” said Phiri.

The former Flames coach, later disclosed that he had identified five football players who played during an exhibition match and said would present them to teams which play in the country’s top-flight league.

Expressing his gratitude, one of the selected players, Peter Chirwa said that he would use the opportunity provided to realise his dreams of being a top football player and to one-day play for the national team.

The winning team, Lukana FC went away with K300 000.00 whilst in the netball category, Lukana which emerged the winner pocketed K75 000.00 after beating Nigeria by 36 to 29 baskets.
